First Look At Sony Xperia XZ1
Sony’s new smartphone is in town and its name is the Xperia XZ1, and today we will have the first look talk about it. Sony loves the Xperia feel and thus keeps-on with the same name pact on this phone too. No issues because our first impression did look quite good. But, we will save final verdict till the review. The design is traditional, again it is quite distinctive and developed, with quite a few things changed by the brand.

Sony Xperia XZ1 Direct Preview:
The XZ1 series is planned as a direct successor to the prototype XZ. However, its specs sheet and camera arrangement is a lot closer to the XZ Premium series. Thus, the XZs fits-in the main analogous and is in-between the XZ and the XZ1 series. The prime design modification of all has to be the metal unibody.
Design Change – Maybe?
Sony has designed one single piece of bent metal alloy, which is much curvier and rounder around the sides as we all know. This fresh “Loop surface”, as Sony mentions it, norms fewer gaps. This is in the construction side of the device, which is definitely a plus-point if you ask us. It most likely facilitated with IP65/68 certification. However, the Sony representatives did use terms like “full body joint structure” and “anti-twist and blend construction.” And, we think they are hinting a new and stronger build for this new series.
Though, with being all-metal, we know the antenna issues will rise but again lets reserve that till the review part. As, Sony has chosen to lodge most of its inner radios with three rather characteristic antenna lines on the edges – two on the left and one on the right. Let’s now say that these are an assimilated tang, but we certainly welcome the effort to integrate them so nicely.
The Rear Side View:
With the XZ1, you actually get a fairly clean back. You get the usual 19MP, 1/2.3″ camera in the top left corner of the device. Which is aga infringed by a plastic insert, similar to that of the XZ Premium series? However, this one is going to be a bit longer as it also has to house the NFC radio along. Our thinking is that’s exactly why we get to see the small vertical plastic inset. Though, they have had it extend up-to the top bezel too. Largely, it’s a different look which isn’t bad at all.
This new-uncovered curvy trend is both, very fresh and only line the below entities, such as:
- USB 3.1 Type-C port
- 5mm jack
- Secondary mic
The Front Shot!
The front of the XZ1 has the entire surface with the Gorilla Glass 5. Which is also flawlessly flat and even. However, you might need to choose a good glass screen protector for some extra piece of mind. You also get loads of side bezels adjacent to the 5.2-inch display too. 1080p panel is present along with them. Sony did pick-out a quite tricked-out LCD panel for the XZ1 flagship. This again is the tradition of this famous brand. You get the lofty-title technologies, including:
- Patented TRILUMINOS
- Dynamic Contrast Enhancement
This also gets you the advertised supreme brightness of 700cd and 138% sRGB exposure too. Nevertheless, the 5.2-inch Xperia XZ1 display is very impressive, with HDR compatibility in addition. And, if you must know, then Sony is promising Netflix and Amazon Video content support with this cell phone.
You also are likely to get the finer power button with fingerprint reading internals with this new flagship. Though, this all looks great, unless, you are in the US, where the biometric reader will be disabled for legal ins and outs.
We did like the dipped power button and the suitably lowered volume rocker on the right side. The steadfast camera shutter beneath it is also a bonus point. We know, you all Sony fans have really grown adapted to this feature. Nevertheless, we still can’t stop our constant criticism of Sony’s long-upended SIM and SD card tray design till date. It is remote from flat with the rest of the exterior and is relentlessly obvious while holding the gadget. Moreover, Sony still hasn’t considered a way to keep the mobile from rebooting, while we take the SIM out, which again, is not so pleasant.
You also get a pair of grills on the extensive top and bottom bezels particularly. Both of them are functional. They are also part of Sony’s moderately remarkable S-Force Front Surround structure. As per Sony’s marketing squad, the setup has been nipped to transport a more well-adjusted stereo effect. They also say that “50% more sound pressure over the Xperia XZ” is going to be on-show. Here, we are not sure what the last portion is referencing to or how the upgrade is going to be apparent in the end result. On the other hand, prior to running any authentic tests, all we can carefully say is that the XZ1 sounds actually grand. And, yes we do stand-in judgment for the full review to take place.
Sony did include swings of audio enhancements, and we can’t wait to play with them. Those are:
- DSEE HX upsampling engine
- High-Resolution Audio
- Clear Audio+ equalizer
If you are a Bluetooth fan, then you are in for a real treat. As Sony has got you the Bluetooth 5.0 modem. Which is again leveraged even moreover the use of LDAC and AptX-HD technologies in this new man-of-war. Without a doubt, the Stereo Recording and Digital Noise Cancellation are in for a spin on the recording front with us.
The new smartphone, Xperia XZ1 uses-it’s after the XZ Premium series for starters. You are going to have some real-time high-performance bar to the horse here. You do get the super-slow motion 960 fps capture at and HD motion. The Predictive Capture algorithm is also included, which is again immense for snapping the picture-perfect shot. Both of these are empowered by Sony’s RAM buffered camera channel, and the lineup behind it all has succeeded to scatter some additional features too. The prominent of these is perhaps the autofocus burst at the start.
You are also in a treat for Sony’s Predictive Hybrid Autofocus system and snappy hardware setup. We are just looking forward to starting testing this as soon as we can. The system is combined with the 5-axis SteadyShot stabilization and Anti-Distortion Shutter technologies too. However, Sony is boasting about it whenever it can. You also get a new trigger for the Predictive Capture feature with the new additions. Sony also added a new 3D Creator application in the Xperia XZ1 which we are sure is going to be very attention-grabbing.
Alternatively, as this is an early unendorsed unit we are holding, most OS features are subject to change. Nevertheless, our testing handset is jogging an Android 8 Oreo ROM, which we are too excited about. Along with Oreo running promises, the Xperia Skin on top looks generally untouched.
The flagship – XZ1 really seems to “crack “in moonlit Blue and Venus Pink in our conclusion. Together, these are just eye-catching for a unique look. Sony has toned them down to not stick out too much in the unofficial backdrop. You do get the Warm Silver and traditional Black choices too.
Another title for this series is also Sony Xperia XZ1 Dual F8342 with dual-SIM card slots, which is again level-headed – Isn’t it? Are you going to pre-order or wait for our complete review to decide?
